Caption: Last Day of Streetcars on Mount Pleasant: TTC Peter Witt 2766, operating on a farewell to the Mount Pleasant streetcar fantrip (1925-1976), poses for photos at the north end of the route facing southbound on Mount Pleasant Road at Eglinton Avenue East in the wee hours of Sunday July 25th 1976, the last day of streetcar service. Visible on the right is the old Eglinton Loop, which will soon see its last car but survive as a bus loop. Further back are the outlines of the St. Peter's Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Northern Secondary School (see a similar daytime view here).
This was the second last run of the Witt up the line that morning. There was also a regular night car (PCC) running out the final hours in service too. 2766 would head south, loop at St. Clair Subway station, and make one more pass up the line as the sun came up to make it the last streetcar operating on Mount Pleasant.
Diesel buses would briefly handle duties along Mount Pleasant until the new trolleybus service was ready.
