Caption: Last SD40 in Script paint! Canadian Pacific SD40 5541 suns herself on the shop track at CP's Toronto (Agincourt) Yard diesel shop, awaiting some attention from shop forces or to be dispatched on its next assignment. Part of CP's group of 65 GMD SD40 units (5500-5564, built 1966-67), by this time in early 1975 the 5541 was the only unit remaining in the as-delivered maroon and grey "Script" livery.
While the SD40's saw lots of service out west, 5541 had been working in the Ontario-Quebec area at the time, and would soon take a trip to Calgary to visit Ogden Shops later in the year and receive the short-lived mid-70's "Ogden Multi" action red livery (full front 5" stripes, but small rear multimark). Unlike CP's two SD40 orders, the scads of EMD/GMD's successor SD40-2 model delivered starting in 1972 all came from the factory in new action red paint.
5541 would serve CP for a few more decades before eventually being retired in 2001, and then sold to Mandak Metals in Selkirk MB for scrap in 2005.
