North of Port Colborne town limits, JLCX 3502 rolls west on the former CNR Canal Subdivision with a string of tanks from their cash cow, the Verbio biodiesel plant. You can see the switch in the distance for the Port Colborne Harbour Railway (PCHR) which GIO/Trillium also operates. Funny enough, we weren't supposed to see JLCX 3502 here, it was acquired for use on the GIO Rail Orangeville operation due to it having dynamic brakes. When the town became sour on the relationship of continuing to operate the railway, the decision was made to not bother sending it, so off to Welland it went.

  1. Which trackage on GIO’s network is considered part of the PCHR?

  2. Legally the PCHR is from the switch you see here to port colborne. Owned by town of port colborne and operated by GIO.

The rest is under lease from CN. That is my understanding. GIO/Trillim may have extended what they called the pchr but I have not heard otherwise ownership changes of the cn section other than the 21 year lease already expired and has now short term extensions.

  3. Do you know which subdivision(s) are considered PCHR trackage on GIO’s network?
