Why is this one (8604?) renumbered 5306?
Nice capture for your 50th post.
You sure are snagging some great shots down in the Hamilton industrial area.
Snazzy paint scheme.
If I may ask, what are the rectangular lights about? On your other photo, these lights are each a different colour. Blue, white and orange/red. Something to do with remote operation?
Good eye. The 5306 didn’t have a headlight, ditch lights or warning lights on when stationary or moving. The lights appear to be for making the units more visible when in motion and moving over public crossings, these units regularly move back and forth over Kenilworth Ave.. There is nothing to suggest these units have Remote Control capabilities.
Kind of amusing – the crossing protection on Kenilworth doesn’t work, so light up the units instead. In all seriousness though, it can get real chaotic around there at times. Extra lights probably not a bad idea.

Thanks Paul. What was forecasted to be a rain day turned out to be reasonably good day.
The NSC center cab switchers have flashing “beacon” lights under the running boards which flash when the units move around, so I suspect these coloured rectangular lights are their end cab switcher version of that.
