Caption: The rain is pouring down in Palmerston, where three RDCs, formerly trains 672 (Southampton), 668 (Owen Sound), and 662 (Kincardine), are lined up on the Newton Sub platform before their respective departures for Toronto and Stratford.
The official last runs of the RDC service to Owen Sound, Kincardine, Southampton, and Goderich was the evening before, on Friday, Oct 23, 1970. Though these services continued to operate to Toronto (and Stratford) as extras until the end of the month. Daylight saving time ended early Sunday morning, Oct 25, 1970, and CN and CP would bring out their winter timetables at this time change.

Another stellar photo of Pslmerston John. Having been born here 6.5 years after your photo, I’ve always lived seeing old photos from when the town was still a railway ‘mecca’. However, do you have any information on the old Queens Hotel shown to the right? I knew it was eventually removed, but looks like it may have been caused by a substantial fire in your photo…or just in the process of being demolished.
Keep posting these ‘gems’! Todd
