There isn't much better than Muskoka, Parry Sound for three days of foaming. Add in the fall colours, and I think it's the best you can get without mountains. Day three is still thinking about dawning as the third McDonald's hash brown goes down, and CN 111 threads the crossovers heading north. The scanner comes to life "6045 South, RTC". I'm not hearing that right, but there is light on the southbound CN tracks as 111 clears, and the scanner comes to life again..."6045 South cleared signal 19.3 Reynolds to north siding switch Mactier". All plans for the day are now altered.

I cannot change the reality that I didn't spend a ton of time trackside during the 80s and 90s. But I'm not missing this.

I have always thought the SD40 is the best-looking diesel locomotive ever made. Its wide cab version is my true favourite, but this is 1A. There is no sound better than a pair of GM 645's winding up with a diverging clear signal, and the beginning of a chase that will end in Bala.
