Caption: There isn't much to this small hamlet of maybe a dozen homes. However, it's hard to imagine that this sleepy town once had a station of it's own (click to see). There was once a siding in place to serve the agricultural business that Chatham-Kent is so famous for.
Like so many other towns Northwood lost its status, as the railways centralized their operations to stay competitive. Gone is the station, and what I believe was the former wooden namesign to the station (was on a post, as you approached the old station site). The siding was also retired, although it's still in place by the double tracked section of this once busy mainline, now heavily overgrown without the switch stands to control traffic. Even though the fall harvest of wheat is being removed behind me, it will be trucked to its final destination(s).
Here, this freight breaks the silence as leader 8002 blows its horn slowly approaching the crossing to this sleepy hollow. Nice to see an EMD built SD70M-2 engine leading train 438.
