This is the last CP GP9 on the CP roster as of 08/2015 - Apparently assigned to Moose Jaw - can anyone from Saskatchewan see if it's active, working , or parked somewhere?
8249 is leading the Credit Valley Explorer Snow Train, passing by the scenic Niagara Escarpment - pinch hitting for CCGX 4009 (trailing) as it had mechanical issues. The dome also adds a touch of class to this train, don't you think?
8249 was not a good performer on this day and it was quickly returned to CP for GP20C-ECO 2267. I figured that 8249 was done for and would be sent to its death or for conversion to an ECO but in fact it appears to be the very last survivor of this series on the roster today. 8249 is apparently US owned. If you have any further details to the disposition of 8249 please add a comment below, anytime. Thank you.

  1. Great shot. By US owned, do you mean CP no longer owns the unit?

  2. No, railways have various (dozens and dozens) of subsidiaries, paper companies that form the basis for certain silos of operation. For example, SOO Line Corporation is still a company in terms of CP’s organizational structure, 8249 is probably assigned and owned by one of the US based silos, of which I don’t know which one.

To see a partial list of CP subsidiaries, see page 4 of this document:

  3. I actually believe this was a Toronto assigned unit, but previously worked on the D&H

  4. It was… apparently it’s been sent back to Toronto very recently.
