Three ex-CP RS-18's (two recently repainted into an SP Black Widow-inspired paint scheme) lead a train consisting of 72 flat cars holding 48 windmill blades (as well as 1 loaded woodchip car up front), as it rounds the Baie des Chaleurs, headed for Matapedia and interchange with the CN. These windmill blades are destined for Texas and represent a new business for the Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie, which runs this scenic ex-CN line.

  3. Were they on OC as well? 1859 and 1842 are down here on Trillium and they still have the OC paint

  4. It looks like they were on Ottawa Central but I`m not sure.

  5. Thanks everyone. This is the Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie, waiting for the admins to add that railway in the dropdown menu. The middle unit is ex-OCR and the other two are ex-NBEC.

  7. That is a very strange routing for the blades. I used to see windmill trains running toward Houston from Corpus Christi TX. I can’t see how this route through Canada could be more cost effective than shipping them to CC.
    (CN can’t compete from Halifax to Chicago. I hardly think that TX would be any different – in fact I can see even more of a disadvantage.)

  10. Great picture Michael, love rural pictures that not only show locomotives and their train, but the local terrain and scenery. And what a beautiful scene ! The hills on the left, the ice and open water of Chaleur Bay on the right, and the beautiful open sky along with the vibrant colour of the nose of old MLW 1819, all making a very striking picture. Questions: are these MLW units still in operation ? And what is the status of repairs to the line toward Gaspe ? Thank you for sharing.

  11. Thanks. I haven’t returned since this trip, but yes, they are still running with these MLW’s. Repairs are ongoing on the line, but I don’t know the specifics of how far they’ve gotten.
