Train 78 led by engine 902...with an all stainless steel consist cross the diamond with the now, mostly abandoned CSX line. Rather forlorn, it shows, especially with the extended daylight.

  1. Interesting photo. The signal lamps look to be lit but the rails appear like they only get traffic very infrequently. Displaying stop, I guess, to the ghosts of the trains that travelled this track. :-(

  2. It’s unfortunate that the northern section towards Wallaceburg has been cutoff by CP lifting the diamond. It would take some considerable twisting and turning to run straight north or south through Chatham now.

  3. @Extra 1014 – yes, sad to say the least. Not the greatest part of Chatham to be around either…but, wanted to go for that different view.

@ Cinton Durand…took photos back in October at the diamond with the CP…oddly enough, never noticed that the diamond was gone! Was kind of hard to see then past the piles of dirt and rubble on the old CSX line…and of course beyond it with log grass growing between the remaining steel that once was a busy line…

…anyone know if CN still uses the line south of their diamond to service Thompson’s in Blenheim?

  4. Obviously if this interlocking is still ‘active’ the signals are required to be in service. Whether that means 2 moves per week or 10, they must protect each user from the other.
