Trains 282 and 283 were the MOQ Ecorail intermodal trains in 1996. Similar to Roadrailer technology, but with the added feature of a control cab and distributed power modules instead of a conventional locomotive. That was the theory anyway. In practice, I never saw the power modules distributed within the train, instead they were always immediately behind the control cab. The train pictured is a typical late running 283, which had obviously had mechanical issues and was being rescued by a GP9. The trains' unreliability led within a short time to their replacement by Roadrailer trains 182 and 183, which themselves only lasted for about a year.

    Strange operation, not surprised it didn’t last. What was the Origination/termination points of these trains? Montreal-Toronto?

    It was a Toronto – Montreal train, and IIRC it ran into Malport as a terminus in Toronto.
