Typical Sunday afternoon....the Fans gather...
and a typical westbound mixed freight powered by two SD40-2's sandwiching two M636's ( 4706, 47??), and a RS-18 trailing....
CP Rail 5738 west is about to knock down the 'new' signal 2063-2
At Leaside, September 30, 1984 Kodachrome by S.Danko
Interesting:
that is the 'new' cross over ( westbound: south track to north track), with the new signal masts, all installed at the time the welded was rail laid down,
when the ribbon rail was installed the original CPR Leaside centre passenger platform was removed,
That platform on the near right was the location of the VIA kiosk that was removed after the Havelock Budd Car final run September 6, 1982. The Havelock Budd returned on June 3, 1985 and canceled January 1990.
The fencing was installed at the time the Leaside Village Station Restaurant opened (1975), and after the restaurant closed (1983) the Leaside station was converted to the CP Rail Customer Service Centre for a short time. In 2009 the property was purchased by Metrolinx ( including the Don Branch) and today the building is vacant.

Would that be the late George Roe in the black coat? Also is that the x Morgan mobile ex Danilo mobile facing us backwards Maybe I was there?
Oh my, from left, George Roe, Dave Smith, is that you Bruce?, Dave Morgan (he bought my 77 Impala), unknown. George may have been the taxi passenger – although there was another chap who cabbed it from time to time….sdfourty
I might as well do an update here for Mr. Danko.
None of this is here today (aside from the tracks) from where Mr. Danko is standing. The signals were replaced by Vaders and moved a few feet down in 2024. The signals before the Wicksteed Ave. crossing were removed, but I’m not sure when.
The yard was progressively ripped up over time, but not sure when that started.
The building might remain, but hard to tell since it’s all guarded by security and trees.
The cement platform everyone is standing on still exists, but with a security car not far from where this was shot, I would not chance stepping foot on it at all. They don’t seem to mind if you’re on pavement and shooting because that’s what I’ve done and just used the zoom on my phone’s camera.
Of course we all know about the Don Branch, weeds, burned out signals, trees growing between the ties and Half Mile bridge fenced off.
