While CN’s surviving GP9RM’s get most of the attention these days, the surviving GTW GP9R’s deserve just as much attention. While they spend most of their time States side, a few have made their way north of the border to help fill in where needed. Originally built as a high short hood GP9 and utilized on both the GTW and CV , it years later was sent to undergo the GP9R rebuild program. In the process it received a new cab and short hood as well as relocated air tanks along with many other modifications. While several have been repainted in CN paint, others like 4623 retain their GTW blue and red. Unfortunately today it spent the day in trailing position on local 542 but at least allowed me one opportunity to catch it not nose coupled as it switched out the shared Guelph North spurs.
