Caption: While stopped by the old Ernestwon station many years ago and getting a few pictures of the stone structure there, I was rather hoping for some rail activity, but it was all quiet. So I sat in the car for a minute, checking out my map ..... and suddenly heard a noise. It was the Budds, I'll bet doing close to 80 MPH and I was not quick enough. This is all I could get, but it will have to do. Camera was set at 500th/sec and still, the Budds are blurred.
I understand the station is still in situ, being designated a heritage building in 1994. The building, constructed around 1855, is similar to others at Port Hope, Prescott and St. Marys Jct.
Ernestown is mile 187.7 on the Kingston Sub, three miles east of Bath; the community it was originally built to serve.

Ah man. How I’d love for this station to be restored. My grandfather, Ralph Mellow, was also into trains so hed take my brother and I to the Nspanee station often, but we also frequented the station here at Ernestown. I would be only 3 months old when you photographed this….and turning 50 in about 6 months from now! CN Budds to boot too. Still a great catch….and years later, I too had a train sneak up on me….too blurred to post….big freight, winter time, trying not to slip due to the ice. But lookup my Ernestown station photo. You can feel the ‘coldness’ of that wintry day I shot the end…and the steel that has carried many trains past this location since the line was completed in 1856.
