With the recent unveiling of Ontario Northland's Heritage SD40-2, I went looking for a vintage ONR shot to scan. While there are good memories of 3 day Holiday weekends with a much younger crew from Cleveland, the shots show that we had some real challenging weather. For this one the high-sun hazy sky sort of cooperated but the weather wasn't the only challenge for this shot. We were there early and decided to wait it out away from the car. It was unseasonably warm and humid and the black flies were out in force. You all know that if you let them bother you, it can drive you crazy, and I can remember wishing for any kind of breeze. This is a southbound train almost home, just about where the railroad joins Trout Lake Rd for the rest of the way into North Bay. Power is 2 of the SD40-2's in their as-delivered paint, like the #1730 that was unveiled recently. May 28, 1979.
