Wyoming is one of those places I always remembered as a child. Many trips through the town always provided excitement when it came to the railway crossing. Back then, it was 4 tracks! And the trains went through, as if they were jet propelled. However, my photography luck hasn't been so grand. I have found depending on the day of the week, you can wait for 4 hours for a single train, or see 3 in an hour. Precision timed railroading I guess?

Through the years, the Strathroy Sub. dwindled to a single track through Wymoning. All sidings were removed, and new infrastructure was installed about two years ago. But this is CN's still busy main corridor for Chicago to Montreal. And today, 509 approaches just as quick as the trains from my childhood. What struck me as peculiar, was CN 3906's numberboards. Looks like CNC machined metal. Something new.

  1. Nice shot Todd.
I remember the busy Strathroy Sub. best from back in the early 1970′s when I worked through many locations including Wyoming on a CN tie renewal gang.
I believe the number boards are frosted plexiglass with painted stencil numerals.
I sent a couple of CN 3906 pics I snapped to your personal email address. :-)

  2. Thanks Paul! Wish I could go back in time to see this Sub in more of its heyday! And stations too, like Strathroy, Wyoming, and Watford.
