GEXR 177, MMRR 5967 and GEXR 4161,66 pull a cut of salt cars up from the Siftco Mine (seen on the far left)up the stiff grade toward the station and yard area. The grade is difficult enough that more than one trip up to the yard is required to bring cars for the train which, once together, is taken south to Stratford. This power consist is 2 GP9s up front, with a GP-7 Slug and "Mother" trailing.
The 4161 was scrapped in 2008 and the #66, renumbered 3834, sold to a broker in 2011.

  1. Loving these! Kinda makes me sad you can no longer go to Goderich and consistently catch a 3 or 4 pack of geeps battle the grade like this. It makes me glad I spent hours upon hours under that old CP trestle fishing with my dad and grandpa watching these consists battle it up the hill! Must of been a good year, Dec 17th and not much snow either! ;)

  2. Very cool Arnold!

  3. Great shot! These were truly the good old days on the GEXR.

  4. Nice shot of the GEXR in Godrich to bad there wasn’t a CP train over on the Matiland river bridge. Have any shots of the Godrich sub in this area?

  5. No, unfortunately, Gord. My luck always was “out to lunch” when I had any opportunity to wander up to Goderich. Will always regret not catching something on the bridge.
