Dead end. This is why I don't blindly follow my GPS, the road I was driving on was supposed to intersect with the Webbwood sub at a grade crossing. To be fair, it did, but I don't know if my grandma's little Honda civic (which is as old as me) would have appreciated it. You can see the state of the road in the foreground.

So now the Huron Central's freight, hauled with 3 locomotives sporting the G&W paint that A.W. Mooney *loves* has cleared the town of Bar River and is well on its way. After this spot, it will be well out of the way of civilization for quite some time, before popping up along some cottages on Desbarats Lake, and finally to meet with the greater population in the village of Desbarats along 17. Bragging rights to the first person who can comment the correct pronunciation of that town's name!

  1. I thought that sad little town was pronounced “DeeBar, but it has been so long since I’ve wandered thru the area I’ve forgotten. Oh well, give me a “B’ for “Bin There”. Too add now to my miseries, I’ve just heard the western part of the DME in the States has been sold to….(gasp) that Orange Outfit. (G&W) PS: Ditch the GPS and purchase a Topographical Map!! :o )

  2. I’ll give you your B, good guess but incorrect! Yes, that’s a drag that CP sold all that trackage off! To the GPS comment, don’t worry, I had only used it for this HCRY trip since it was my first solo drive in Northern Ontario, and I needed it in case I got lost in the dark! Night comes quickly when you’re chasing a 10mph train :)
