Here's another of those historic old Rwy stations, this one one of the larger on CP. Once had a busy yard, turntable, and I am guessing, perhaps a crew change point. The railroad is gone, torn up in the past couple of years; makes me wonder if the station still stands, and if so, why. Hopefully the municipality can find some use for it, such as senior centre or meeting hall. All was quiet when I visited there for this image; but interesting to note the speeders out front. Track inspectors on coffee break?

  1. That’s a cool old station. I like the stone work. There’s a whole lot of nothing there now.

  2. Another excellent picture from the Mooney Station Gallery. As always, thanks for for getting the picture and displaying it here.

  3. Station was torn down around 1987-88. Last VIA in 1990, and last train around 2012 before abandonment. A small building housing 4 speeder bays, crew room and waiting room for VIA passengers replaced this and existed up until abandonment when it was demolished.

  4. THANKS for information on the station!!! Any info on others along that line would be sincerely appreciated as well!!!

  5. The only station buildings remaining are North Bay (restored), Mattawa (in situ) and Carleton Place (restored). The roundhouse within the wye at Carleton Place may also still stand too.

  6. Wow!!! If those gorgeous station buildings at Arnprior and Renfrew are history as well, that is a real shame. And I wouldn’t think there would be much life left for Mattawa’s aging station. I honestly thought it had outlived its usefulness.
Thanks for the summary, it is a shame that so many old structures have fallen.
