A harsh overhead sun was the reason I elected to shoot from this odd angle at Guelph Jct. The only clue that this is an image from the Jct is the building on the left; perhaps a former hotel or boarding house. It is still in existence. Everything else is gone. The station and the power. The most distant track in the photo was removed this past fall, and the rest has been rebuilt (elevated). CP 4712, 4553, 5752 and 4508 roll eastward as the orders are hooped up.

  1. Good shot with human interest in it.
Was this the last place for “orders” before the train got to Toronto Yard?

  2. I believe that the building behind used to be the “Section House” a place where a few of the section forces lived. That’s what the old timers used to say.

  3. Re the question about train orders: this was typically the last location that eastbounds picked up train orders. There was an operator on days in the Streetsville station & during the early 1980s track program related train orders were sometimes issued for last minute changes in track speeds etc.

  4. The Streetsville operator only had the old style cane hoops, not the string “Y” ones, and they hurt the inside of the arm at 50 mph..so the few times I got hoops there, I deliberately held onto them until we went over the Credit River by Reid’s Mill & threw them off the bridge, thinking they would run out eventually & replace them with string hoops.

  5. You’re making me wonder just how many of these hoops each station had on hand…….:o)
