Caption: A trio of the Island heaviest power, the MLW RSC-18 locomotives, are given the 'once over' by CN workers as they are readied for the next assignment. Their days are numbered; business is dwindling, many shippers were switching over to trucks, and CN really could not see much future here. The last operating units on the Island were shipped out via MV John Hamilton Grey on Dec. 28, 1989, and the era of railroading in PEI drew to a close. So CN 1754, 1755 and 1756 pictured had but 8 years to go. On the right in this photo one can see the twin spires of the St. Dunstan's Basilica, a landmark in the city. As far as remains of the railroad goes, track is pulled up now, and the RoW is part of hiking/biking trails that criss-cross the island. One locomotive remains as a reminder of days gone by, CN 1762 on display at Kensington.
