Numerous fantrips were run in the 1970's with the "Credit Valley Railway" 136 and 1057, the famed former CPR 4-4-0 and 4-6-0 (D10) that went onto hauling excursions after the end of steam. On one such run under the Ontario Rail Association, CVR 136 and 1057 haul their train past Campbellville Ontario on the CP's Galt Sub in 1974, with a nice head of steam.

Today, both enjoy a post-retirement career on the South Simcoe Railway, hauling tourists in vintage heavyweight passenger cars along the former CN Beeton Sub out of Tottenham ON.

  1. I have an almost identical shot. Our family must have been standing just to your left. My notes have the date as May 5, 1974, Hamilton & return.

  2. I was just going to write same, Eric, as I too saw this train, but I only had an Instamatic camera. Bummer! May 5th would have made this a Sunday run.

  3. It’s nice to see this engine as it was. I saw it in Tottenham in 2013 at the South Simcoe Railway. All it is now is a shell-on-wheels. According to my sources, the engineer at the SSR didn’t think it was a good engine to run. Presumably it is a parts source for the 136.
