Heading to the USA and Conrail's Frontier Yard in Buffalo, CN 5362 and 5363 have in tow two newly retired M630(W) locos late of BC Rail; 730 and 701, sold to General Electric. In this time frame quite a number of these '630' locomotives went to GE, and they gathered en-mass at Frontier. Of the CN SD40-2(W, numerically the last two of a large block on the roster (5241-5363) the 5362 was still active as of early 2014 whilst the other was retired in 2010. In the background on the right one can see the old Merritton city yard, as well as the station, which burned down a few years later.

  1. How did you get this angle?

  2. Your question has me wondering what it looks like down there now. I parked just out of sight of the left side of the photo, walked across the track; cut some offending foliage and that was that. Right behind me is the Glendale Av level crossing, and out of sight on the right is that line that used to go up and over the main on its way along the canal. “Bum Bridge” I heard it referred to as. It was removed in 1976. I am looking West with this shot; saved from the sunshine by that cloud cover we so often need along there.

  3. I’ll send ya a pic of what it looks like now, I do believe I have one.

  4. Is that where Ker and Walnut Streets meet, just to the left of the train?

  5. Joe: I know that is Walnut St over there on the left, but I am not familiar with Ker. But thats the location, yes. Looks not much like that any more with the station gone. Still a decent place to park and watch what trains there are though………
