CTC is coming - as evidenced by these signals for the "West Guelph Junction" switch. This area was (and still is) known as (CN) Guelph Junction as a station was located here for the crossing of the Great Western and Grand Trunk railways. The station survived well into the 1970's as an operator would have likely been stationed for the Fergus sub. What Metrolinx will call this new control point is anyone's guess - but I'm hoping Guelph Junction :) .  At the time of this writing this is the newest and most eastward signal on the Guelph sub yet installed.
Operation wise: This is GEXR 582 - now based out of Preston (instead of Kitchener). Engine parks at Eagle St in Preston, runs from Preston to Guelph, sets off empties at the east switch 'Guelph Junction', wyes the engine along Crimea St, and runs to the west switch (pictured here). After lifting cars, train will back along the main (pictured) to the Fergus spur switch for the return to the Galt/Preston area. This seems to occur around Lunchtime.

  1. So, do you know if they will they install signals on the Guelph Sub in Kitchener?

  2. Uhm Kevin, the entire Guelph sub.

  3. Is there no conductor in there or is he just leaning away? Cool shot otherwise. :)

  4. Maxim the conductor is on the tail end, they have to shove back and zig zag into the west end of the former Guelph siding to get onto the Fergus Spur.

    These switches here are actually only refered to as XW12 (on the North side) and XW20 (on the south side)….this isn’t planned to be a controlled location these are just approach signals.

    CN Guelph Jct is listed as Guelph Jct Wellington, it is still listed as such to this day, so as not to confuse it with CP Guelpht Jct

  5. Kevin, there are already CTC signals in Kitchener. They are not turn on yet as I suspect the entire Guelph Sub will be turned on all at once when the CTC install reaches Silver.

  6. So I am guessing with the new signals being installed on the Guelph sub does that mean we will see more cn run though trains or is it for an increase in go trains?

  7. The CTC project on the Guelph Sub is all part of the capital funding from VIA, this goes back several years. Though MetroLinx now owns this section of the Guelph Sub the CTC is all being paid for by VIA
