A couple of Consolidation-types work near downtown Pembroke, circa 1959. Both of these 2-8-0 locomotives were built by MLW. #2533 was built in 1906, while sister #2646 arrived two years later. Their days were certainly numbered when Del captured this image.

  1. Still another classic. Looks as though this slide was rescued just in time, with that deterioration beginning to eat away at it.

  2. Hey Arnold… thanks for your comment and observation.

Sadly, you are absolutely correct about the deterioration. In fact, most folks would be surprised to see the rather poor condition of Del’s original slides. Please keep in mind that they are about 55 years old. Although they’ve spent their lives carefully stored in air-conditioned comfort, their age is definitely showing. Slide restoration brings up the whole topic of how much “Photoshop” is reasonable. Steve Host and I have shared some friendly emails on this topic. I’ll address it in more detail in the caption section of an upcoming Rosamond posting.
