A great shot Steve! This was Terra Transport’s first attempt with the new bi-directional arrow paint scheme which overall resembled a return to the 1960′s ‘noodle’ scheme from the 1970′s ‘zebra’one. It was applied to only two of the 47 units of the series (the other being 917). It was later changed by dropping and centreing the arrow on the body, extending the red-orange paint to the sides of the cab and replacing the white skirt stripe to the reflective yellow. Did you manage to shoot any of the branchline mixed trains? It would be wonderful to see them posted!Thanks for sharing your images from the Rock. Sincerely, Ken Pieroway
My only shorts in Newfoundland were taken at the ferry terminal in Port aux Basque, taken while we waited for a ferry. If I recall, we arrived for an afternoon/evening boat but they were so far backlogged, that we had to wait for the next day’s morning run. We spent our time in Gros Morne NP and then up to L’Anse aux Meadows – minimal time for trains.
I did see and photograph one leaving PaB but it was not in focus.
When 915 and 917 were painted with the arrows logo in October 1979, it was put on backwards. That did’t last too long and it was corrected to the way shown here. 917 was later painted in the revised TerraTransport scheme.
