Via Rail FP9A 6305 sits at the head end of #3 during its station stop in Jasper. Via 6313 sits on an adjacent track, it came into Jasper from Prince Rupert with the Skeena. It would be added to #3 behind 6305 and make the trip to Vancouver for maintenance.

I'm not sure if at the time I realized how lucky I was to take in scenes like this in Jasper. These were the final days for F units on Via in western Canada as the F40PH would soon take over. And I sure didn't think that 28 years later 6305 would be hauling freight in southern Ontario!

  1. You certainly were pushing your luck getting a scene like this as late as mid-1989. And nice weather to boot!!!

  2. And VIA 6313…is now CP 4107!

  3. Excellent – isn’t it wonderful to find out you shot something ‘momentus’ years after the fact, the kind of thing you just can’t predict in advance either..

Here’s it hauling freight.. and lots of it:

No shortage of pix of 6508… probably one of the most photographed F units in Canada by now.
