Trillium 1859 is about to switch onto the Thorold Spur after spending an afternoon servicing various places in St Catharines. It's going to head down the Thorold Spur, where it'll unload it's cars in Welland and call it a day.

  1. Great shot Docta!

  2. Awesome shot from a small railway that isn’t photographed enough!

  3. Thanks guys! I try to photograph the line when I can for that reason.

  4. Another deece Trillium shot. Do you perhaps know when Trillium usually runs? I have been lost on when it usually happens, even though I live in the area. I have yet to see Trillium switch Kemira Chemicals on Welland Avenue as well.

  5. The Chemical plant is rarely serviced and I really have no idea. I’ve seen trains return with tank cars but I’ve never actually seen it there. One day I hope to.

On a usual day, Trillium will arrive to the junction around 12:30-1:00. It will go down the Grantham Spur to service whatever places that are down there off of Westchester and is back at the junction by 2:30 and leaves around 3. Now granted, it’s been a bit later recently once in a while but this is on average of most times I’ve seen it.

  6. All those years I lived in St. Catharines and I did not get to see anyone switch that chemical place on Welland Av either. They must “sneak” in. :o )

  7. If you hadn’t seen it, then it is rare ;)

  8. Sweet. Maybe I need to set up a motion sensor camera or something. Haha.

  9. A helpful tip you can always pick them up asking CN for clearence to cross the Grimbs Sub on the scanner, and it takes a good 15-20 minutes for them to give it

  10. All…I hear it is end of the line (literally) for GIO below the escarpment (ie. North of Thorold). So no service of St. Catharines industries after March 2024. Apparently section repairs combined with the climb up the escarpment are the main factors, …dwindling revenue has to be a consideration as well, so everyone who got to shoot the N-S coil covers at TRENERGY, all for the history books

  11. The customers can be handled elsewhere. Canada Erectors closing shop didn’t help and trenergy is too infrequent. Real estate is also valuable. 6 miles of track and switches crossings and bridges for 400 cars a year.

Nsc doubled that amount last year.. if it doesn’t happen again soon.. cya
