The Talbotville-Buffalo autoparts train that used to feature out-of-the-ordinary power so frequently had something a little different this day. A "Stealth" NS unit 9867 leading UP 8605. The unpainted version of the Dash-9 was not all that uncommon.As fast as GE was pumping them out, NS was pressing them into service. As this image indicates, even before they got painted. This train and its' counterpart, #327, were discontinued at the end of 2006.

  1. Man, I miss this train. The lashup’s were always different and it was great.

  2. First train I ever remember is a Norfolk Southern train in Aylmer with a Norfolk and Western caboose ” Canadian Operation Only”. Our practice field for baseball was located in Cornith, it would feature the two daily NS trains per practice. I agree, I miss this train too.

  3. I also miss it’ but often it WAS a pair of dash 9′s… but the exceptions were glorious

    I only got about 1 or 2 good shots of these steal dash 9′s.. i was much more interested in the EMD’s :)

    Heck, he couldn’t come out for every decent 327/328. Some of us have to work. But I also wonder when I see the turnout for the odd really good train…does ANYBODY work? :o )

  9. I remember we didn’t always know what was on 327.. but usually knew what was on 328. And since both trains usually met on the Dundas sub somewhere (both by Hamilton by 0830) it meant only early risers would get it.

    I worked in Waterloo at the time, and being 1 hour to bayview made it difficult to get there and go to work after so I didn’t do it all that often (but I did do a few trips on weekdays)

    On weekends that was my goal , to catch 327/8 somewhere and I probably got it about 30 to 40 times.

  10. Btw a “Canadian Operation Only” N&W caboose lives on in Detroit at NS oakwood yard.
