Back when CN was still in control of the Hagersville subdivision this southbound rolled into town on a very hot June afternoon. CN 9637, 9460, 9501, 3530 and 7048 made up the power; and a long string of new hoppers followed. Way back at the 'tree line' on the left one can barely make out a semaphore....one of the last I have seen in Southern Ontario. I followed this train from Caledonia, and was relieved when it stopped, as then I could plead with them to close the front door. Very distracting, no? Power consist on this train now all off the roster.....9637 became Railpower RP20BD 5401, 9460 went to Western Rail in 2007; 9501, retired 2001; 3530 to Hudson Bay Rwy, and 7048 retired 2007. As well, the track is now leased to the Southern Ontario Rwy.

  1. That would have been train 560. Fly ash hoppers are a thing of the past on the Hagersville Sub now as well, as OPG’s Nanticoke Generating Station is no longer burning coal, which produced the fly ash!

    PRH

  2. Thanks, Mr. H. Good of you to take the time ut to remind me of these things I have forgotten. :o 0

  3. As an afterthought I am assuming the semaphore in the distance was set up in the same manner as Ron explained in regards to the one in the Fergus station photo I posted the other day. After all, there was once the diamond with the CASO sub here………..

  4. Keep posting these shots of times and places that are now gone.

  5. Where’s Joe Bishop?????? I would have put him all over this one !!

  6. haha, this is just slightly greasy!

Did you shoot this on the bridge also??? Sad how few tracks are left in Hagersville today.

Of interest the new track that they put in at the elevator still hasn’t seen use as far as I can tell as well!

  7. I WISH I could have shot this on the bridge. But no, the boys were taking a break for a spell and I had to get to work for 3-11 shift. I was tired from enjoying myself and had not even gone to work yet!

  8. In regards to last comment, Jazzy; I didn’t pick this train up until it was not far out of Hagersville. As in about 5 miles. It was either already over the bridge or just rolling over when I saw it……memory failing, ya know. But I could not follow any farther than this image (last one of sequence I took) on account of work.

  9. So this just popped up on my front page today in the ‘suggested’ pictures.

Other than the M420 in 4th I’ve already shot a similar lashup on this line and had many great experiences with CN on the Hagersville…

    amazing how history repeats itself..

We didn’t really think it was possible when this was posted – it wasn’t until October 2016 I had the first inclination/hint that things were likely to change…. and those rumours did grow ever stronger as the months creeped closer to September 2018..

Alas things like this became daily in 2019/2020…. and I’ve even shot a whole bunch of six axle power.

  10. Well, Mr. Host; I hope CN doesn’t end up giving the boot to the GEXR and running up to Goderich again.
I thought CN to Hagersville was all history.

  11. Arnold, you are correct both approach (advance) signals to the Caso Sub. interlocking on the Hagersville Sub. were a single semaphore blade fixed at 45 degrees with a light, although the light was often vandalised. This was common on low density lines. The former northward signal mast is still track side, stripped on all components.
