Since it's the season and everyone else is doing it, here's my contribution to the springtime "trains with wildflowers" photo frenzy. Instead of directly hooking up to the train after running around it between runs I moved the old 25-tonner ahead to a patch of lupins with some yellow lillies thrown in. Only problem was all the lillies were blooming on the track side, only a couple were on the side of the plant I was shooting from. Was joined by a gent from the Netherlands who took advantage of my little side show to snap some shots of his own.

  1. nice!

  2. Beautiful photo Mr.Shaw! This same engine can be seen in active duty as Bowaters no. 4 of the Bowaters Newfoundland Pulp and Paper Mill in Corner Brook, NL. Photographed by James A. Brown on June 19, 1967, it appears on page 158 of ‘RAILS AROUND THE ROCK – A Then & Now Celebration of the Newfoundland Branchlines. Nicknamed ‘The Dinky’, it operated on that industrial line until 1977 before being sold and shipped to St. Thomas, Ontario.

  3. Thanks guys! I have even tread upon the rails in the Bowater complex where (our) #3, albeit long after “The Dinky” was gone from there! As a side not we have a locomotive #4 that doesn’t get a lot of publicity, a 5-ton Brookville that came from the CIL Munitions plant in Nobel. I’ll try to get around to submitting a shot of that one too. Maybe we’ll call it “The Dinkiest” as it’s a tiny, strange looking beast!
