I'm not certain, but I think the NW F units ran last in Southern Ontario in late 1978. My knowledge on this is fuzzy, so comments or corrections appreciated. On this particular sunny spring day in early 1978 I wandered down to Fort Erie in order to shoot some roster images of CN GP9s, so was pleased to see 3 NW units at the sprawling CN facility; two of which are pictured here......3667 and 3671. The other was 3660. These were part of an order of 20 units manufactured by GMD (London) expressly for use on Wabash in Canada. In this image, the units are perhaps at the end of their working lives.

  1. Nice historic shot.

  2. I have an old b&w photo of 3661 in St.Thomas
(in service.. not stored) marked as 1984.
I,m not taking that date as 100% correct, so we still need another confirmation.

  3. Someone got the boards!!!

  4. Sorry, Jazzy Joe. If I knew photoshop I could have set some in as to not have you be upset for the rest of the day.

  5. A couple of F units in Fort Erie! Doesn’t get more classic than that

  6. Thanks, Docta. It feels like another lifetime since I saw those beasts.

  7. I know N&W 3671 was alive & well in July of 1976. :-)
