You never know what you might find. Here at the CBNS shop in Sydney some years ago I came across a couple of odd out of service Georgia Southwestern locos. They had been acquired in 1998, and eventually scrapped 2008. (what is that fixture behind the horns?) Also in this 'deadline' were CBNS 3842, IORY 62 and former CN 2028, a C-630M, stenciled IBCX (Indiana Boxcar?) and sold to a scrap dealer. I think this is the unit I saw cut up in pieces at Cohocton, NY a few years ago.

  1. Behind the horn is the mounting brackets for the air conditioner….from its ATSF days.

3842 still survives, I believe it’s stored inside the now out of service CBNS shop. Service between Sydney and Port Hawkesbury was embargoed a few years ago, sadly no trains are moving around Sydney now, other then the old Devco.

  2. Air? Now THATS interesting. Now in GSWR paint I would have thought at least the paint scheme would involve a white roof……..the black (or dark blue) really would soak up the heat.

    Thanks for this.

  3. When I was there in 2014 there wasn’t a single engine in Sydney nor was anything moving past Port Hawkesbury.

  4. I believe the fixture behind the horn is an antenna stand, I could be wrong, here is a picture:

  5. The contraption on the roof beside the horn is an antenna ground plane, its not for an air conditioner.

  6. Exactly….because the air conditioner would’ve been below so the antenna had to be raised! All related.

BTW Great shot Arnold I miss the down home experience!
