Now that there is commentary over the Mud Missile looking rather unimaginative to some of us in its' hardly well-thought-out Canada 150 Wrap; I thought I should offer this example of how it appears VIA has always dabbled with the grey/gold idea. Time Machine shows what VIA 6532 looked like in experimental grey/gold back in 1980, but I am wondering if any of you knew that VIA also painted up a coach. I wasn't very keen on this scheme either, and I guess neither was anyone else. I have never seen another photo of this, but there must be some out there, somewhere. How many appeared in this dress? And for how long?? Would be nice to have answers. Somewhere, someone with VIA must be hung up on these colours...................

  1. This is taking from RAPIDO Trains website. They have produced both the locomotive and both LW Coaches in HO Scale,
In 1980, VIA was in the process of purchasing the first order of LRC coaches and locomotives. The original plan was for the LRCs to be painted all grey with a yellow vertical band on one end. VIA decided to test this scheme on one FP9A locomotive and two coaches. But then when the final LRC paint scheme was decided upon these quickly became orphans as it was decided that the conventional locomotives and cars would remain in their then-current scheme of blue and yellow. Although never standardized upon,, the scheme was striking on the equipment onto which it was applied.

  2. TWO coaches, eh? Thanks for this. They couldn’t have been around long.

  3. I don’t know if I can say what I want to say on this, but here’s goes:

Someone must have a —- — at VIA for this scheme. Probably someone that’s been there that’s as old as the sod.

    That clean off?

  4. I always liked the color. Simply neat and clean.
The new ugly green stuff is just well ugly and hard to see at a distance down the tracks.
Thank you for posting a rare picture.
    Bill
