A manifest train on a beautiful spring morning. This train has just past the Frank Slide, where in 1903 a big part of Turtle mountain came crashing down on the town of Frank. You can see the large rock pile near the top of the photo. No matter how many times I drive by it over the years, it always looks like it just happened.

    This is a great location for such a photo. The slide was so massive it was hard to find anywhere to get a photo that justified just how massive it was. I ended up taking a picture of my car surrounded by rock. :o )

    Spectacular!
    I bet you’re standing up on that big rock outcrop next to highway. Gives a nice down on view of the loco’s.

    Excellent photo! Really gives a nice perspective of the amount of rock that came down. Terrifying to think what the slide would have been like.

    Funny I should stumble on this shot on the 55th anniversary of the Hope Slide, (two days ago) a few miles east of Hope B.C. It was the largest in Canadian history at 50 million tonnes of rock and debris and fortunately came down where there was no community but two cars containing I believe four people were never recovered.
    It would be nice to see more shots like this one as this site is overloaded with eastern vistas,mostly in the Toronto area,and by the same half dozen or so photographers who all seem to know each other.There are so many pictures
    at similar locations that I almost feel like I’ve been there!
    I do,however,enjoy the street running shots which are/were a rare option in the west.
