GO Bi-levels come to Hamilton! A special two car GO train came to Hamilton on the 1st of February 1978 to show off the new bi-level cars to the potential commuters. There was an APCU unit on the other end of this short train; I elected to submit this head on view rather than a 3/4 shot as we can see media activity taking place here. Two media people are crouched down as CHCH Ch 11 cameraman records an interview on the right side, and to the left train personnel (videographers)are chatting it up with a couple of fans setting up their own video cameras on the other side of the fence.
This was the start of how we know it today. The first GO Bi-levels were built in 1977-1978. The GO 707 pictured became CN 9674 in 1991.

  1. Great photo Arnold! Lots of snow back then.

  2. Post the 3/4 shot.

  3. This is a prime example of a “Mooney Shot”. Not just a train but something happening with it. It isn’t easy getting the picture of the TV crew taking pictures of the train and the reporter too.

  4. That looks to be an old train order stand on the left.
