Caption: This is another shot on my bucket list - Kitchener West. This spot was visited by me numerous times, and back when I was in university, I used to come here often when the line was at grade with King Street, just to the east of this image. My goal was to get this shot yesterday but 431 got ahead of me, so I took the opportunity to grab it today. I like the improvements here - much modernization has happened on this line since Metrolinx started operating on the line with the GO service. At left, two GO train sets are parked, and there are another two east of the Kitchener station. Interestingly, the one at left is completely in the new GO scheme. Here is a shot on the east side of King St. - http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=29324. The line to the right of the photo is the Huron Park Spur, which turns into the CP Waterloo Sub south of Highway 7/8 parallel to Courtland Ave. - the CP/GEXR Interchange.

GEXR’s had quite the variety over the years. I have a shot to pull out of the HLCX Purple days – 432 by mile 44.9 at 2000….. yes.. 2000…. it’s why I have so few shots of them – they were a night train for a while, also included the FEC period also.
SOR (Nanticoke) has only been interesting to me in the last few years since Orange arrived… thank god.
Hamilton did have the GP20d’s but mostly used the old standby geeps so Hamilton was always decent.
When did this unit get pulled from SOR Nanticoke and sent to GEXR? Did GEXR acquire this engine or is it just on loan?

RLHH 3403 is just on short term loan until the GEXR can get their motive power situation sorted out. It could be a while though. The SOR can make due without 3403 on their mainline train, they have enough power. Similar to the situation with 6908 though.
3403 was transferred a few weeks back. Probably the end of February. Hitched a ride on CN to Mac Yard and GEXR grabbed it there.
I think it’s fair to say that the situation over in Quebec necessitated 3403 coming over – the QGRY unit was in need of replacement once it left – the SD40-2′s currently assigned have had numerous issues requiring repair and waiting for parts can take time – I don’t know what’s up with 3393 this time..
But GEXR’s been down this path about a dozen or two times – there’s been so many short term locomotives – but most of the time it was a CN GP40-2w.
I’ve documented this in prior comments.. but CN has nothing to spare right now and hasn’t for some months.
OSR 8235 comes to mind also..
FEC 709… it was a loan unit.. it lasted about a year!

Kevin 3403 made it’s first trip interchanged to GEXR Tuesday March 6 but it say at mac yard for a day or two before moving. It led on 431 for the first time on Wednesday March 7, per observations from various railfans.
