Off the Waterford Sub main is TH&B X-755 30 ton American Crane along with caboose #62 on the Hamilton Regional Conservation Area spur (now Dundas Conservation. I am assuming they ducked in there to allow for the Nanticoke train to pass thru later in the afternoon. The old TH&B main is a walking trail as we know, but a small stretch of track still exists within the Conservation area, as part of their Regional Office and Trail Centre station replica building. The caboose went to Port Stanley Terminal Rail in 1987.

  1. I’ve always wondered what the purpose of this spur was…. this late in the game. I read in TH&B history books that it was primarily a vacation/getaway spot (Like a typical Railway destination – a railway park) in the 19th and early 20th century but surely outlived its usefulness in 1983..

And this wasn’t the Hamilton and Dundas.. too far west?

  2. I don’t know the original H&D line, but a branch veering over to CCSL from Dundas is what is referred to in a timetable I have. Westward from that Jct is strictly TH&B as I knew it.

  3. Fabulous photo Arnold! TH&B X-755 was an American model 830 DE (diesel electric) locomotive crane with serial number J-3066, built in 1952. It was later renumbered to CP 414226 and has since been scrapped.

  4. As always, information on the subject is appreciated by all. Thanks!

  5. The original H&D Line (later TH&B) was the line that veered off at Leland St in West Hamilton crossed Main St. and proceeded alongside Cootes Drive into Dundas.

  6. So how long was the Mineral Springs spur?

  7. Dunno. Half KM maybe. It stretched from just out of sight behind the caboose to about 6 or 7 carlengths behind me, roughly. From the crane to end of track is still in existence. It ‘houses’ a couple of old cars, one an Oil-Electric and a coach of some sort by the repro station. I will post that shortly.

  8. Are there any pics of the caboose hiding in anyones files? Those bay window vans were rare in Canada
