...grain elevators....vintage in service

VIA Rail train #2 cruises through Punnichy, Saskatchewan

the siding in front of the Elevator appears to have seen recent use, and Punnichy is shown as an active station on the CN Rail website

what's interesting

place name Punnichy is absent from the Watrous Subdivision Timetable, Punnichy is a couple miles East of Quinton mile 77.6 Watrous Subdivision

note the Punnichy Cyclist admiring the train – bottom left corner

another first for the photographer: two Park cars on the same The Canadian train ( I have seen this before, first time photo capture – better view to posted soon)

that 'green eye' was a pleasant sight as forward progress was frequently interrupted

  1. Sad looking old structure, but great that it is active. Certainly an unusual photograph. Hope it was a good trip, even though slow at times. :o )

  2. Not sure if it’s still visible but this used to be the location of a large coaling tower on the south side of the main and, about 15 years ago, you could still see foundations and the grade for the elevated track for coal hoppers.

  3. Punnichy was at some point years ago a siding but no longer is hence why its not in the time table. This elevator hasnt been loading railcars in years. The back track there is only used for engineering equipment and B/O set offs.

  4. Just for fun, I checked through some of my older maps. The 1965 Across Canada CN map (a big fold out map, the front of the map shows the 6516 with Mount Robson in the background) has Punnichy shown on it. I have another CN map from 1966/67, it is in the same style as the Across Canada, but Punnichy is no longer shown.
