With Waterloo Regions LRT system said to be opening in less than a day now, I thought it would be a good time to share one of my favorite shots from last summer and it was of GEXR’s Kitchener-Elmira switcher (584) taking 2 of the brand new LRV Light Rail Vehicles up the Waterloo Spur with them on flatbeds (behind their usual short stash of tank cars) for delivery to the region!
In this scene here the sun has just gone down and GEXR 584 has just began it’s 11 mile trip up the Waterloo Spur with the 2 of the brand new Light Rail Vehicles behind its 6 loaded tank cars. Right near the halfway point between Kitchener and Elmira, GEXR will set off the 2 new LRVs in the very rarely used spur to Commonwealth Plywood which is just about a mile north from the new ION Maintenance facility and from there the region will pick them up, unload them and get them ready for testing!! Time was 20:45 and photo was taken just north of the Wellington st crossing in Downtown Kitchener. GEXR power (out of sight) was 2303 and 2073.

  1. Nice delivery shot of the ION’s Graydon. I don’t think many were able to actually shoot them on flatcars on the actual Waterloo Spur compared with elsewhere.

  2. Thank you Jay.
There were actually few foamers out that night that I can recall who have been paying attention to the LRT on social media and came to see the delivery. do you ever pay much attention to YouTube? A couple people actually have videos from this night of the arrival and even offload. They put all the clips in one! And not this one, a lot of the delivery’s actually!
I myself have a okay documentary I think on YouTube from 506’s delivery on 04.30.18 if you’d be interested. https://youtu.be/j59_RyfgmqY
I got a couple video clips from this night too which I think I’ll eventually upload onto there.
