What a huge surprise it was to come across this CN steam powered crane actively loading a couple of air dump cars on the coal chute track at Spadina Shops, Toronto Ontario. Especially since it was September 1968. Location is approximate.

  1. That was quite something to see, I’ll bet. And it was great it was not under shadow.

  2. I wonder which unit this was, they couldn’t have been too many small steam-powered cranes left by then. I’ve seen shots of a similar-looking CN 50884 crane with tender/flatcar 51379 at Spadina in the late 50′s/early 60′s.

  3. MrDan, I found the shot of it facing in the other direction. It is the 50834.

  4. CN 50834 Browning 31.5 ton, sn xxxx, built 19xx, assigned to CN Spadina roundhouse for coaling & sanding.
