I don't see many SD40-2 engines on CP anymore so when I heard one was working in Sudbury I decided to make a special trip. U57 started their shift around 0630 and I followed them throughout the early hours of the day as they worked in Sudbury Yard before heading up the Nickel Sub towards Vale. With the morning sun fully risen I shot them departing Vale at Clarabelle after they had picked up a string of 46 ore cars. From here we parted ways - 6018 and 5035 led U57 towards Levack and I headed over to the Coniston diamond.

  1. Very nice Craig.

  2. Thanks, Jason

  3. There’s actually been a couple different one’s around Sudbury this year. There were 3 sitting outside the DESX shop in downtown Sudbury earlier this spring, and there was another different pair here as well in the spring for a couple weeks while the usual pair of Sd30′s was gone for I presume maintenance in Toronto. Sudbury seems to have been a small haven for these this year, and i’m glad i got to see them in person!

  4. Colm – that’s good to know, thanks for the info. If they ever have another pair of SD40-2s on the Levack Turn please let me know!
