I chased K50 out of Moose Jaw and though it wasn't the most exciting power, I have to say, it was a pretty fun chase. K50 is the Weyburn turn and runs as required according to the Trackside Guide. On this particular day it was 8920 solo with 99 grain empties. I am going to hazard a guess that the empties were for the Weyburn Inland Terminal, though I can't say for sure. There are a couple reasons why this chase was pretty fun. First, the Weyburn Sub parallels Highway 39, and though the trains go at a decent clip it still isn't too onerous to get back out ahead of them even after the entire train has passed you to try again at a crossing further down the line. Given that it was mostly cloudy, I think I had to try at about four or so crossings before I finally got sun on the head end. This just added to the fun of the chase, though, and it's not like I had anything better to do on a Sunday in Moose Jaw than to chase a solo GE with 99 grain empties across the prairies. If memory serves I think I retreated back to Moose Jaw after getting to Rouleau or so.

  2. Haha. I spent a couple nights in Moose Jaw and the parade of big red GEs on the Swift Current Sub kept me pretty busy. That said, I was pretty happy when Monday morning came and it was time to head to Assiniboia for the GWR. :)
