To me, overcast days up north always feel worse than they do down in Southern Ontario. Throw in heavy skies and a dilapidated old CP station slathered with insulbrick and it appears even worse.
Quite the station at Blind River. Rather massive, with a lot of freight area. I would assume to agent lived downstairs for the most part at the right side in this view (note TV antenna). Much too big to move and likely impossible to heat, this structure was demolished, probably in the early 1980s.

  2. I’ll never understand any railway company’s decision to be rid of ‘old and dilapidated’ structures. I mean…we all know why they do it….but the stories these old ‘bones’ could tell. They dont build them now like they used to….thanks for capturing many of these stations Arnold. :)

  3. Thanks, Todd.
Someone in the know could probably tell us how much taxation is involved when these “mini- use” buildings are not removed. Not in this case at Blind River, but in many communities the stations were often the best looking places in town.!! They sure would make nice homes.
