Another dismal dreary day out railfanning.
Here's the old CP station at Petawawa, Ontario. Already looking forlorn by 1981.
I would imagine the wreckers discovered this place a long time ago, but have no information as to its' demise and would appreciate any input.
Petawawa is located 10 miles up the line from Pembroke. At least it used to be. Now it is 10 miles up the Algonquin Trail from Pembroke, as a result of that rather unpopular decision to pull up the Chalk River sub a few years ago.

  1. Bleak.
However, you did manage to record it for posterity so thanks for that. Amazing that both railways pulled up what had been their mainlines through The Valley. I think we could say those are the typical short sighted decisons that characterize the Canadian railway business.

  2. I guess the skies in this pic suited the future of the station.
And I keep thinking that if CP had left their line in, it would have given them the best opportunity to ship commodities like oil and other bulks directly to the East without having to go thru major metropolitan areas like Toronto and along the north shore of Lake Ontario.
    Short sighted indeed!!!

  3. Mr. Mooney: You’ve made my day! My dad was posted to Petawawa from late 1964 until late 1969. It was my favorite base out of the many I’ve lived on. I can remember relatives coming from the west on the Canadian and meeting them at this station. I wish I would have had a camera back then as this line was fairly busy. Thanks!!

  4. Robin: Well that certainly was a surprising message. I’m glad this image brought back some memories, and I appreciate your support.
I do get to wondering when this place met it’s demise. Information on these old places seems to be hard to come by.
