Caption: As far as I can recall I am on the walkway to the Skylon Tower in order to grab this image of an eastbound CP freight heading for Clifton Hill and the Steel Arch bridge to the USA. Things have changed so much it is hard to recall my bearings.
CP 5527, 1806, HATX 404, CP 5863, 4730 and 5667 is the power up front of the 'as required' train #526 (Toronto to Niagara Falls, NY). This image is rather late afternoon, judging by the sun angle.
The 'road' in the centre of this photo is the private laneway to the old Hydro building.

Well I dun learned something! I always figured Murray Street going down to the falls was “always there” and the CP must have crossed overhead, approximately where the walkway to Fallsview Casino is today. This photo proves my assumption wrong. I see a crossing signal a couple cars back from the locomotives, but it doesn’t look like much more then a walkway. Minolta Tower is also fascinating; there are so many other hotels built up around it now that you really have to look for it to see it! Good show Mr. Mooney!
This photo prompted me to look into this line. So it was connected to the Stamford Sub just east of Welland? I haven’t been to Niagara Falls in a while but I recall that line is now ripped up. But when I was a kid it was still active (circa the age of your photo). It is sad to see rail lines ripped up. Inexcusable in my opinion.
