The Cayuga Clipper leans into the curve at Mile 112 of the Cayuga Spur. This was a shot I wanted to try for a while, and all it took was a bit of patience and timing. Who knew that 4 short months later OSR would pull the plug on the Cayuga. Anyone know the backstory on the 112 mileboard? Its not typical CN style and looks very similar to some of the N&W/Wabash style mileboards from their American lines. This ultimately would be the last run of the clipper I was able to catch.

  1. Perhaps it’s re-used from the nearby CASO?

  2. Neat angle. The old mile post sign almost still looks like it’s attached to the first pole too.

  3. Thanks Jason! Didn’t even notice what appears to be the original mileboard until you pointed it out.

I’m not sure this vertical mile board came off the CASO. Any modern mileboards i saw were placed by CN and in CN Style at the tombstone mileboards.

  4. Someone may have got creative :) Maybe there’s a fan in the signals department ??

At some point the american mileboards on the CASO would have had to come down, and someone who was there would have to chime in on what the modern replacements looked like into the 80′s

on the CSX in Sarnia there’s a mixture of Concrete and steel and the styles vary, some of the CSX steel ones remind me of the one pictured here.

  5. Who knows, it may be a story lost to time at this point. Hopefully someone out there knows. Its the only one of this style on the Cayuga Spur that i’m aware of.
