On Vancouver Island, CP’s E&N Division handled logs from the Crown Zellerbach Logging Division reload at Lake Cowichan east 18 miles to Hayward (just north of Duncan) then north 17 miles to Ladysmith and CZ’s log dump. Here, typically clean GP9s 8676 and 8640 are eastward with a fire-season water car and log loads crossing the awkward-to-photograph (and seldom documented as a result) trestle bridge over Bings Creek at mileage 1.6 west of the junction at Hayward.

  1. Great image, glad you documented the bridge.

  2. I wondered when I first looked at this photo whether you did any manicuring on site. :o )
