For me, the shot of E&N Baldwin scrapping at Wellcox in Nanaimo in July of 1974 that sums up the mess there is this, debris all about but operations continuing with cabooses all lined up and the yard office with scrap cars being scaled behind the crane’s boom.  In the foreground, the day and afternoon chargehands at Wellcox (a job I worked six years later) are observing.  That I was able to photograph it all from a variety of perches among the activity was due to the tolerance of Victoria locomotive foreman Hugh Albert Miller, who also organized and managed all the scrapping with no injury to any of us.
