And slightly earlier that same day. The last photo I posted was the north (west) bound VIA #9 behind 6501 and this is the counterpart #10 with VIA 6423 stopping for a crew change at CN Boyne, about 3 miles south of Parry Sound along James Bay Jct Rd.
It was a good time when both the Toronto portions of the Canadian could be seen in daylight. Now it is obvious we have a relatively new F40PH-3 here; actually barely 3 months old, and these days the units are the backbone of the VIA system across the country. And common. What is significant about this unit 6423 is it was the very first of the series to be wrecked; having fallen victim in that horrific collision at Thamesville, Ontario on the 23rd of April, 1999. For that reason alone, it deserves to be featured on RP. Second unit is 6617.

  1. Always great to see the human side of railroading captured ! You probably wouldn’t get that angle today. At least not without fear of punishment. ;-) That’s another loss for railfans today; access without hassle.

  2. Thanks. The poor actions of a few fools get all of us ejected. Maybe that should apply to government. :o )
